Haute Maurienne

Haute Maurienne Vanois - a wonderful ski area near the French-Italian border between the national parks La Vanoise (France) and Grand Paradis (Italy). Surrounded by more than 100 mountains higher than 3000m are the snow conditions ideal. The 2 biggest and most famous mountains are the Charbonnel (3753m) and the Albaron (3637m). Just 90 minutes away from Torino and 2 hours from Geneva is Bessans for everybody good and easy reachable. In the completely new stadium of Bessans, which is from November until April snow save, are perfect training conditions. Also summer biathlon is possible. Because of the proximity to Torino is Haute Maurienne ideal as a place for training camps and this is also proved that not only the French, but also the German, Italian or Slovenian team holds training camps in Haute Maurienne regularly.

  • The ability to realize big events was already proved with the alignment of the Youth - and Junior World Championships 2004. By the way it was decided to candidate for the Biathlon World Championships in season 2008/2009. But these World Championships went to the "Biathlon-Nation" South Korea.

    For years some of the best biathletes come from France, but nevertheless Bessans doesn't get a World Cup, not even a European Cup. The interest in Biathlon increased in the last years immense how Biathlon-Summer-Tour 2005 proved with an unexpected high participation of spectators. In Bessans and neighbourhood are many hotels renovated to offer ideal quarters to both athletes and spectators.
