The Poirée-Saga

It's the 7th February 2004, 7pm and over the cold Oberhof rises the sun …
We look back a couple of hours : At this memorable day a Norwegian and a French should write their own chapter in the big book of history. Liv Grete and Raphael Poirée became World Champions in Biathlon as first married couple ever.
… Now, they're standing on top of the podium and smile, while they are celebrated loudly by thousands of enthusiastic fans.

But his shouldn't be the end. During those World Championships went more precious metal into the hands of family Poirée. Liv Grete mastered to win gold in addition in pursuit, relay and mass start and Raphael climbed the podium in all left races. So it was 7 times gold, once silver and once bronze for the both and the unimpeachable first place in the medals list in front of the nations Norway and France.

Those unforgettable World Championships preceded a more or less average season 2002/2003 where Liv was pregnant with little Emma and so took a break and Raph thoughts never seemed to be completely in the race, but rather with his wife.

But the worse the pre-season was the better was the season 2003/2004. 20 World Cup victories and 16 additional places on podium. The gold-family Poirée completely in yellow ! Both won not only the Overall World Cup, but also the discipline World Cups. Only the red bib in women's individual didn't went to this successful Norwegian-French union. Perfect became the luck of the both with the cute daughter Emma who was with them all the time and helped to simply forget Biathlon sometimes and because of that became somehow to a legal doping.

All this might sound like a fairy tale …
A long time ago there was a Norwegian girl who met a kind French man. Both fell in love and soon the girl went pregnant and gave birth to a daughter. With much training and hard work the happy couple became king and queen of Oberhof, before they conquered the whole word short time later, armed with only skis and small calibre rifles …
