Start Quota for World Cups 7-9

Die IBU hat die Startrechtliste, die für die Weltcups 7 bis 9 gelten wird, herausgegeben. Wie vorangekündigt wurden die ersten 3 der Europacupgesamtwertung nominell befördert. Es sind Ronny Hafsas (NOR), Alexis Bœuf und Julien Ughetto (FRA) bei den Herren, sowie Juliane Döll, Anne Preussler und Jenny Adler (GER) bei den Damen, womit die deutschen Damen jetzt zu rekordverdächtige zehnt antreten werden, was abermals von der Stärke der deutschen Biathlonschule zeugt. Da die nächsten 7 Leute nur insofern befördert werden können, als ihr Land nicht bereits den Quotenplatzanzahl erreicht hat, das es am Anfang der Saison hatte, bzw. diesen nicht erhalten konnte, haben viele wertvolle Athleten das Nachsehen, derweil weniger Begabte davon profitieren könnten, zumindest theoretisch. Nationale Verbände erhalten Quotenplätze zurück dank Leute, die zwischen den 5. Platz (Roland Zwahlen, SUI) und dem 37. Platz (Miroslav Matiasko, SVK) rangieren. Es ist schwer, sich mit diesem Relegation-Beförderungssystem abzufinden : zwar macht es den Europacup etwas attraktiver, zumindest in der ersten Saisonhälfte (wie stehts nämlich mit der zweiten ?), doch seine Mechanismen entbehren weitgehend jeder erkennbarer sportlicher Logik. Etwas, das besonders schlimm ist an den beiden "Cuts" : dadurch geraten solche Sportler, die grundsätzlich Weltcuptauglich wären, die aber zum Beispiel krank werden, noch zusätzlich und künstlich unter Druck. Ein weiterer unbefriedigender Punkt : dieses System ist in erster Linie den mittleren Nationen nachträglich. Während die kleinen Nationen automatisch zu einem Starter berechtigt sind, bildet der Cut für die grossen kaum eine Bedrohung. Verloren aber insbesondere Startrechte bei den Männern : Schweden, die USA, China, Slowenien, Polen, Estland, Bulgarien, Kanada, Japan, Grossbritannien. These are Ronny Hafsas (NOR), Alexis Bœuf and Julien Ughetto (FRA) fort he men, as well as Juliane Döll, Anne Preussler and Jenny Adler (GER) for the ladies, which will allow the German ladies to start to ten, a further proof of the strength of the German biathlon school. As the next 7 persons can only be promoted if their nation has not already the whole start quota that it had at the beginning of the season, resp. if it could not protect it, many valuable athletes are unlucky, whereas less strong ones could profit from theses rules, at least theoretically. National Federations win back start rights through people ranking between 5th (Roland Zwahlen, SUI) and 37th (Miroslav Matiasko, SVK). One can hardly find this relegation-promotion system a good thing : indeed, it makes the Europe Cup somewhat more attractive, at least as far as the first half of the season is concerned (what about with the second ?), but its mechanisms are not based on a clearly recognizable sport logic. Especially, both "cuts" put at risk some athletes that have fundamentally a sufficient level for the World Cup, but simply have the bad luck to get ill, for example. An other nasty aspect : this sytem is a difficulty especially for the intermediate nations : while the little nations have at least one starter, the great nations are practically not threatened by the cut. Did especially loose start rights : Sweden, USA, China, Slovenia , Poland, Estonia, Bulgary, Canada, Japan, Great Britain. In other words : nations, whose development is the key to an enlargement of the top ! L'IBU vient de publier la liste des droits au départ qui s'appliquera pour les manches de Coupe du monde 7 à 9. Comme prévu, les 3 premiers du classement de Coupe d'Europe sont promus de manière nominale. Ce sont Ronny Hafsas (NOR), Alexis Bœuf et Julien Ughetto (FRA) pour les messieurs, et Juliane Döll, Anne Preussler et Jenny Adler (GER) pour les dames ce qui porte le nombre d'Allemandes au départ au chiffre record de 10, preuve s'il en fallait de la vitalité et de l'efficacité de l'école de biathlon allemande. Comme les 7 personnes suivantes ne peuvent être promues que pour autant que leur pays n'ait pas déjà atteint son quota de début de saison, resp. n'a pas pu défendre celui-ci, de nombreux éléments de valeur restent "sur le carreau" au profit de compétiteurs plus obscurs. Font ainsi retrouver un droit au départ à leur fédération des gens situés entre le 5ème rang (Roland Zwahlen, SUI) et le 37ème rang (Miroslav Matiasko, SVK). Il est bien difficile de délivrer un satisfecit à ce système de relégations-promotions : s'il redonne quelque attrait à la Coupe d'Europe, tout au moins en première moitié de saison (quid de la seconde, en effet ?), ses mécanismes échappent par trop à une logique sportive clairement identifiable. Surtout, les deux "cuts" mettent en situation difficile des sportifs qui auraient foncièrement le niveau de la Coupe du monde, mais qui ont seulement le malheur de tomber malade, par exemple. Autre point fâcheux, ce système porte essentiellement préjudice aux nations intermédiaires : les petites nations ont droit d'office à leur partant, les grandes n'étant guère menacées par le cut. Perdent notamment des partants chez les messieurs : Suède, USA, Chine, Slovénie, Pologne, Estonie, Bulgarie, Canada, Japon, Grande-Bretagne. Soit autant de nations par le développement desquelles un élargissement de la pointe doit passer en priorité !
